Business:
Keyboarding 9 Practice increasing our typing speed. Continue new learning on MS Word Menu bar.
Financial Math Topic will include Mortgage Loans, and Monthly Payment and Total Interest on buying a home.
Math 7 Introduction to Geometry. Line and Angle Relationships, Triangles and Angles, and Special Right Triangles will be covered using our textbooks, worksheets, Glencoe Online, AAA Math and VMath websites.
Media The desktop publishing project has been started for a newly created business called "Revealed".
Web Publishing Creating new web sites for subject areas at LLCS will be taking place along with creating baseball and softball sites.


English:
Check your student's daily planner (provided by the school) for the day's assignment. Discuss with the student that day's class activity. Call Mr. Farrell at school (624-2221, ext. 304) or at home (624-2501) with questions.


Grade 3:


Grade 6:

Tuesday is a field trip to Skidmore College, leaving at 8:05 a.m. and returning at 3:30 p.m.
ELA: continued work on parts of speech, main and helping verbs, literary terms and the use of story maps when reading. There will be a Grammar Quiz on Friday that covers parts of speech, subject-verb agreement and literary vocab.
Math: Chapter 9: Probability-lessons 9.1 through 9.4 for this week, covering simple events, tree diagrams, the fundamental counting principle and permutations. There will be a quiz on these topics on Friday.
Reading: We are reading "The Singing Man" , a west African folk tale. This ties in with our Social Studies unit on African civilizations. We will also read several other African folk tales and two Time for Kids non-fiction reading assignments about Africa.
In addition, they will continue their outside reading towards 75 pages per week and 25 books for the year.
Social Studies: We will begin Chapter 10: The African Civilizations and review the geography of the continent by making physical maps and outlining the major resources, languages, religions of the region. In addition, we will discuss the Kingdom of Aksum and the West African Empires.
Science: Wednesday is a Chapter test on Weather. They will need to know the Coriolus effect, the vocab and definitions, the layers of the atmosphere, conduction, convection, greenhouse effect, and ways in which human pollution affects the atmosphere.Thursday and Friday will be the start of the next chapter on the Earth's Atmosphere. Thursday will be the introduction to the material with vocab and definitions and Friday will be a lab to explore the direct and indirect rays of the sun on the Earth.

7th and 8th Grade Intermediate US History
This week will be devoted to exploring the web sites of the Boston Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium and other points of interest on our Boston trip. Please remember the Skidmore Trip is Tuesday (Return by 3:30) and we leave for Boston on Thursday afternoon (meet at 4pm in cafe').
9th Grade Global Studies
We have been studying the Renaissance and will begin the Reformation and Counter Reformation this week. I will out of school Tuesday and Friday for Field trips this week.
10th Grade Global Studies
We have been studying the effects of the Cold War and will continue with how the Cold War effected the development of Third World countries in Asia and Africa and how they gained their independence. I will out of school Tuesday and Friday for Field trips this week and 10th graders will be out Wednesday for the Canton and Pratt Institute trips and Thursday for the Envirothon Trip.
11th Grade US History and Government
We will finish up WWII with a video on Monday and discussion and study Guide on Tuesday. We will begin our study of the Cold War 1945-1989 throughout this week and next. I will out of school Tuesday and Friday for Field trips this week.
12th Grade Economics
We will be working in chapter 5 for section a and b for business organizations and move into chapter 6 for Perfect and Imperfect competition. I will out of school Tuesday and Friday for Field trips this week


Technology:
Construction: Chapter 38: Mechanicals
Following this week's instruction the students should be able to:
Describe or sketch a simple plumbing system.
Recognize the various types of piping used for water supply, drain waste, and vent systems.
Describe the basic elements of an electrical system.
Explain how split-system air conditioners work and identify the basic parts
The students are engaged in the construction of a shed for a community member. At this point the two side walls are installed and braced on the floor deck. The gable walls are beginning to take shape and layout and construction of the roof trusses will begin. A temporary tarp roof has been added due to the forecasted wet weather.
Eighth Grade Introduction to Technology:
8th grade Intro to Technology - Teacher generated textbook: Design techniques; sketching, orthographic and isometric drafting.
This week the students will be engaged in using the design process to create an individualized wooden clock housing. To date students have completed the orthographic drawings, as well as the CADD drawings of their wooden clock housings. All students are now engaged in the physical construction of their clock housings. One student has begun the finishing process of the clock housing. Safety lessons are given as equipment and/or tools are needed.
Principles of Engineering: Chapter 19: Constructing Buildings
Following this week's instruction the students should be able to:
Compare and contrast the ways to clear a site for construction.
Explain how foundations and superstructures are constructed.
Describe how interiors are finished.
Identify post-construction tasks.
This week the students will begin the task of "reverse-engineering" a lawn ornament sized windmill that has bearing/lubrication issues.
CADD I & II (1st Semester- CADD I, 2nd Semester - CADD II)
Students utilize Chief Architect-11TM software to design and draw virtual residential and commercial buildings. Students are wrapping up their personal home designs this week.
