Spring is in the
air!! When you receive this newsletter
it will be around the first of April and hopefully this will be true. Things have been somewhat hectic for the
Board of Education with the budget development process and superintendent
search going on at the same time. The
budget is basically done and you will be receiving information regarding it in
May. This year’s budget hearing will be
We have just received the school district’s report card and once again our students have done very well. If you would like a copy of the report card it is available in my office.
I apologize for
any inconvenience that was created in postponing our Superintendent Conference

Learn
something new or explore an old favorite
The Health and Wellness Committee at
Tai Chi-Joe Kahn will give an introduction to Tai Chi, one of the oldest forms of martial arts. Participants will be welcome to then practice with him.
Guiding Eyes for the
Blind –Jim and Cherie O’Hara will share their experiences raising puppies
for the Guiding Eyes for the Blind organization. They will give an overview of the GEB program
and share videos of some puppies during training. Their current puppy,
Healing Modalities-Liz Marsh from Healing Adventures will give a brief introduction to energy medicine and the chakra system. She will discuss breathwork and vibrational healing along with the benefits derived from incorporating one or more of these methods into your daily routine.
Holistic Landscaping-Wynde Kate Keough, landscape designer and owner of Earth Roots Landscaping, offers a workshop on the elements of holistic landscape design and installations. This session covers topics like the five elements, why they are important, and how to achieve them in the landscape. Edible landscaping and the layout and nature of design will also be discussed. Participants will be given the opportunity to create their own landscape design.
The Art of Origami-Wynde Kate Keough invites you to join her in an evening of fun. Turn squares of colorful paper into delicate flowers, flying birds and jumping frogs. Learn new ideas for Christmas tree ornaments, mobiles and children’s games. The possibilities are endless for both adults and children alike. Limited registration.
Self-Defense-former military policeman and educator, Michael Campos will present a two-hour workshop on self-defense techniques. This is an excellent participatory workshop for students and adults. Limited registration, so sign up early.
Trailblazers and VIC-Kevin Elkin and Rynda McCray will provide an over-view and presentation of the Hamilton County Trailblazers program and the events and projects offered by the Newcomb VIC.
Drumming for Community-Cathleen Beneville-the drum circle brings people together in a unique rhythmic experience that transcends language and cultural barriers. It is energizing, spontaneous, fun, creative, and synergizing for the body, mind and spirit. Limited registration, so sign up early.

BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING IN REVIEW –
The minutes of the
Representatives of the student body discussed with the Board the possibility of having a modified baseball team. Mr. Patzwald will meet with Mr. Olbert and student representatives to explore the possibility.
Upon the Superintendent’s recommendation the Superintendent’s
Conference Day scheduled for
The Board directed the superintendent to contact SED to determine what steps need to be taken to purchase a generator, phone system and repair of the bleachers. These items will be purchased using grant money.
Nick Luxford, President of the Class of 2006, presented
the Board of Education with information regarding the proposed senior trip
to
Mari Cecil an architect with Bernier, Carr and Associates discussed with the Board various options for capital projects to be included in the five year plan. It was decided that projects dealing with the school’s infrastructure should be given priority.
Mr. Patzwald distributed the School Report Card and the proposed calendar for the 2005-2006 school year. Both items will be discussed at the April meeting.
The Board discussed the budget for the 2005-2006 school year and will adopt the budget at its April meeting.

BOARD PETITIONS AVAILABLE AT
Petition forms
for the nomination of candidates for the office of Board member of the
Candidates for the School Board must be at least 18 years old, be qualified voters of the district and be able to read and write. They do not have to be taxpayers. Not more than one member of a family can be a member of the Board of Education. No employee of the school district is eligible for the post. Candidates also must have been a resident of the district for at least one year before election.
Completed petitions must be returned
to the District Clerk in the Clerk’s office no later than
POST-SEASON HONORS
LLCS basketball players and teams were honored for their achievements during the past season at the March 7th winter sports recognition night in the gym.
Leslie Farr and Andy Snide, champions of their respective modified teams in foul shooting, shot off for the overall modified championship, with Andy emerging as the winner. Likewise for the varsity, Sara Lamos and Tim Helms dueled, with Tim coming out on top.
In conference honors, Tim was selected by opposing coaches as a MVAC South first team all-star. Josh Young was voted to the second team, and Noah Beardsley received honorable mention. In the girls’ all-star balloting, Sara made second team, with Chelsey Wallace getting honorable mention. For team sportsmanship, the Lakers girls’ varsity won first place for the sixth consecutive year, and the boys finished second.
WELLNESS
CLASSES RETURN TO
Wynde
Kate Keough will be returning to
The series will include six aspects of
wellness and how to bring these areas into balance within our lives. There will be and introductory session
explaining the objectives and content of these classes, and a conclusion
evening will end the series, making this an eight-week course. Part II of
this series will be held in the fall and will be a continuation of these
areas of wellness.
Upon
the completion of this two-part series, all participants will have the
knowledge and awareness needed to balance any area of their life. This is a course directed toward inner growth
and group sharing. We will have a gentle
yoga stretching period to begin each evening, followed by a food preparation
activity, before discussing the topic of the evening.
These classes will be held on Wednesdays, starting April
13 and ending June 1. The time of the
classes is

Education: The PTSA has made $54
from Box Tops so far this year. We have
donated this money to the school’s Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) to help
with Family Fun Night. Thank you to all
you clippers out there! Please clip the
“box top” coupons from General Mills
products, including Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Hamburger Helper, Lloyd’s, Old El
Paso, and others. Please deliver your
Box Tops to the PTSA mailbox in the main office. Thanks for your support! Wind (Instrument)
Fall: The PTSA made an
unexpected profit on the dinner served to area student musicians at the
All-County Festival in January. We will be using it to make a purchase for the LLCS Music Department
– when they make a selection from their wish list! Family University: The PTSA will once again be providing funds
to pay for child care workers on Family U night, April 29. This allows all members of our community to
attend dinner and workshops. Our child
care workers are experienced, reliable and fun!
Free child care will for children toddler thru Grade 5. Please call Camille at 624-5351 if you need
care for a child under 2 years old. Student Adventures: The PTSA receives requests for monetary
assistance from students who are participating in educational programs
which require tuition, travel, and the like.
We have donated to three such students so far this year. We are proud to help our students access
educational experiences beyond our town, state and even country! Teacher
Appreciation Dinner: This year’s
Teacher Appreciation Dinner will be held on Tuesday, May 3. Call Camille at 624-5351 if you’d like to
help or need more info. Officers Needed: It’s
time to choose officers for the coming school year. Will we be able to continue? The involvement of our members will ensure
the future of the LLCS PTSA. The PTSA meets the third
Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. However, our next meeting will be held
on April 14, 2005, due to school vacation, in the H.S. Library. The weekly activity schedule will be posted on the school web site
every Friday afternoon for the following week.

Printer Cartridges: The PTSA recycles used computer printer
cartridges, and raises funds at the same time!
Drop your used cartridges in the PTSA box in the main office – you’ll be
helping the environment as well as the PTSA!
