From the Superintendent’s
Desk:
The 2006 school year ended
with a very nice graduation ceremony on June 24th. It is hard to believe it has been one year
since I sat in the audience and watched the class of 2005 graduate! Congratulations one more time to our
graduating seniors!
It has been a great year and
many wonderful events took place. I
would like to thank all the members of the community that took the time to
introduce themselves to me over the year and who also took the time to attend
our different activities throughout the year.
In the new school year we
hope to offer some adult education classes along with other fun events
involving the students and community. I
am always interested in new ideas so please feel free to contact me directly if
you have an adult class you would like to offer.
I would like to thank 6th
grade teacher Gary Baker for his many years of service to the district and wish
him all the best in his retirement. He
was influential to students inside and outside of the classroom and has
fostered the interest in life long activities in many of our students, past and
present. Gary will also be remembered
for his world famous adult education class - “Bakerball”.
I would also like to thank
Family and Consumer Science teacher Debbie Havas for her many years of service
to the district and wish her well in her retirement. She has been remarkable in teaching all of us
about healthy choices and healthy life long activities. Debbie also
participated in adult education classes, teaching yoga and cooking.
On behalf of the staff and
Board of Education, we wish Gary and Debbie all the best in retirement.
Watch for our next newsletter
that will be out just before school starts.
It will contain information for the new school year and note any
important changes. Encourage your kids
to read everyday. If you are around this summer, there is a summer reading
program for children at the Long Lake Library.
Have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Kevin Crampton
Superintendent

A
district Wellness policy will be presented to the Board on May 9th
for approval. Family University Night
was April 28th. The event was
well attended, although numbers were down from previous years. There was no community feedback or
suggestions from the group. The St.
Lawrence field trip was April 29th.
This was also well attended and received. A suggestion was made that the trip be
scheduled earlier in the winter for next year.
Availability of facilities from SLU is a factor in the date picked.
New
Business:
There
were community member requests that additional information on alcohol abuse be
distributed to students now that prom and graduation season is here. There was discussion about the possibility of
Mike Nerney coming in for a spring presentation. Kevin has been in contact with Camille about
this issue and will be handling this with her.
There
was discussion about the Boston trip.
Community members are glad to see this trip continue and would like to
emphasize the importance of middle school students getting to attend both trips
offered in alternate years.
Tina
and Tisha’s faculty positions on the committee will be vacant in the fall. The committee will need to appoint a new chairperson
at its first meeting. September 14th
was picked for the date in order to have time for any discussion on fall parent
conferences.

SUBSTITUTES NEEDED
Long Lake Central School is accepting applications for substitute custodial and cafeteria employees for the 2006-2007 school year. Please call, 624-2221, or stop by for an application.
Another year has come and gone. We had a very successful year. We tried new events and from all the positive
feedback we will try to continue them this coming school year. One example was the Kindergarten and 8th
grade move up ceremony. We felt it was
important to tell the new Freshman how proud we are of them and let them know
that everything they do and accomplish will have an effect on their future
plans and goals. The Kindergarten made a
very big step into grade school and should be equally proud of their
accomplishments thus far.
The PTSA also sponsored a fundraiser which
90% of the elementary students participated in and raised close to
$1,300.00. We then passed out surveys to
see what the students wanted to do with the funds and the most votes went to
buying a pottery wheel for Art class.
This will be discussed with Ms. Gannon and hopefully will be there in
the fall.
Mrs. Wallace has been a vital part of the
PTSA for many years and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for
everything. She has definitely gone far
beyond her duties as treasurer and she is greatly appreciated. Nancy’s term is up and she will be replaced
by Mrs. Pitcher who has agreed to be treasurer for the upcoming term. Nancy will still be an active member. If anyone else would like to become a member
we are always looking and never turn anyone away.
To the Class of 2006, Congratulations and
best of luck. To all students have a
great summer and we’ll see you in the fall and to the staff thanks for the
terrific jobs that each and everyone of you do all year long.
