Central School Newsletter is published irregularly by Long Lake Central School,
PO Box 217, Long Lake NY 12847-0217
Dear
District Residents:
The February break is coming up quickly
and another basketball season is winding down.
I can’t say enough about how well our combined varsity teams have worked
out and the commitment our students make to be athletes and at the same time remain
in good academic standing. This says a lot about the character of the Long
Lake/Indian Lake students. Kudos to
them!
It was also exciting to see our gym filled
last night with people from both communities and many retirees and graduates on
hand to watch the boy’s varsity game against Bolton. It was a good game and our team fell short by
two points at the end. I am confident
our boys will “rebound” and get back to their winning ways.
In the near future we will be looking for
your input on the future of school sports and how our teams will look in the
years to come. If you are interested in
being on a committee to discuss how Long Lake should proceed and to
explore/suggest alternatives, please contact myself or Coach Olbert directly.
NOTES:
Congratulations to Ben Black for his gold
medal win at the Science Olympiad at SUNY Potsdam on February 7th. Lydia Wilson accompanied Ben. Ben and Lydia flew a plane in the “Wright
Stuff” event that managed to stay airborne for 1minute and 8 seconds.
Saturday, March 8th is the
Junior High Science Olympiad at SUNY Potsdam. Parents are welcome to attend.
The Spring Musical is March 14 at 7pm and
March15 at 6 pm. We hope to see you there!
Every school in NYS has to be audited by
the state Comptroller’s office. We are
going through this process now and will share the results with out school
community upon its completion. We look
forward to going through this process and will use any information gathered to
continue our fine fiscal management.
Happy St. Patricks day to the O’Long
Lake community!
Sincerely,
Kevin

Guidance News

The Indian Lake/Long Lake varsity teams
once again this school year qualified for the New York State Public High School
Athletic Association's (NYSPHSAA) Scholar-Athlete Team Award. To be eligible
for the award in basketball a minimum of seven athlete's averages must be used
to acquire at least a 90% team average. The girls’ basketball team used the
quarterly average of eight athletes to acquire a team average of 93.083. The
boy's basketball team had ten members quality for the award with a team average
of 92.057.
Indian Lake/Long Lake is well
on their way to receiving the NYSPHSAA's School of Distinction Award for the
2007-2008 school year. This award is presented to
schools having 100% of their varsity programs qualify for the NYSPHSAA
Scholar-Athlete Team Award during the school year. The pressure is now on the
spring sports teams to continue the academic success experienced by the
athletic teams so far this school year.
Girls' basketball
student-athletes contributing to the team award were Cassandra Mitchell, Maggie
Evatt, Ashton Eldridge, Colleen Nerney,
Hannah Lamos, Liz Hamden, Murphy Farrell and Allison
Eldridge. Members of the boys' scholar-athlete team were Alex Smith, Andy
Snide, David Andrews, Jordan Wallace, Zachary Mitchell, Jesse Benton, Jeff
Reynolds, Tom King, Kris Bain and Josh Benton.
Not all players on the
athletic team are included on the scholar-athlete team. Years ago when NYSPHSAA came out with this
award, Indian Lake decided not to include anyone on the team that individually
didn't have an average of at least an 85.
