Technology Mission Statement
To empower all students to reach their full potential the Long Lake Central School District has the responsibility to incorporate technology into the educational program by providing an environment that promotes life long learning, problem-solving skills, career preparedness/adaptability, information management skills, technological literacy, and effective communication through the use of technological tools.
Vision
- All members of the Long Lake community will have access to a range of appropriate technologies.
- The technology plan is a document which will continually be revised to meet the needs of our community.
- Technology training will be available, and all staff will be encouraged to become technologically competent role models for students.
- Students will be prepared to use technology to meet their needs in the 21st century.
- New technologies will be continually used to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of all members of the Long Lake Central staff.
- The entire educational community, through the use of technology, will maximize its ability to solve problems and arrive at an effective decision in an ever-changing environment.
- We will provide the skills and build the confidence necessary to access all channels of information to communicate in the global society through the technology standards that have been collaboratively established.
- The district will provide the financial support for the planning and implementation of technology in a manner that enables students, staff and community members to reach their full potential.
- Technology will be used to provide connections and encourage partnerships with area businesses, libraries, museums and educational institutions.
Beliefs
- Throughout their school career, every student should have equal access to the development of technological skills.
- Learning and technology are interrelated; knowledge and curriculum will drive technology.
- Technology should be integrated into the classroom curriculum so as to become an everyday aid to teaching, learning, understanding and application.
- Teaching and learning are a human experience, and technology can enhance the interaction of the learner and the teacher.
- Technology is a constantly evolving set of systems that requires maintaining relevance to the needs of society.
- On-going staff development to integrate technology within teaching and learning.
- Students are empowered to pursue the individual paths best suited to their needs. Learning results not from access alone but from continuous interaction between student, teacher, and the global community.
- Outcomes call for students to be independent, life-long learners.
- Technology is a tool that will assist learners throughout their lives.

Administrative Goals
The District will:
- Direct administrators to play a leadership role in the implementation of technology.
- Develop policies and procedures to include, but not be limited to:
- Job descriptions / Hiring procedures
- Appropriate record management
- Provide staff access to student records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Provide ongoing training for staff.
- Provide all staff with the appropriate tools to achieve optimum productivity.
- Establish and oversee a district technology committee.
- Annually assess administrative/instructional tools.
- Use and implement appropriate technology as a component of performance evaluations.
Communication Goals
The District will:
- Develop an internet safety policy.
- Revise and update, as needed, a computer usage policy.
- Implement technology protection measures for computers with internet access.
- Provide appropriate access, and training to enhance global communication for staff and students including, but not limited to, e-mail and internet resources.
- Use telecommunications (e-mail, internet, teleconferencing and distance learning) to create an exchange of information between homes, school, businesses, and other educational institutions.
- Provide through telecommunications and interactive media an exciting environment for exploration and learning, creating a vast global network.
- Provide for web page development.
- Use secure administrative programs to provide internet access of student management information.
Community Goals
The District will:
- Provide an opportunity for community usage of technology.
- Provide an opportunity for adult computer learning experiences.
Computer Literacy Goals
- The District will foster business and community partnerships in order to develop and adapt our computer literacy standards to meet the ever-changing needs of society.
- All students will possess the basic computer literacy skills prior to entry into high school.
- We will develop specific technology exit standards in accordance with NYS learning standards.
- All students will use multimedia learning and production stations where they review materials, conduct research and prepare reports and presentations that combine text, graphics, sound, music and video.
- Upon graduation, Long Lake Central School students will possess the knowledge and skills needed to appropriately apply the following five basic computer functions:
- Information storage and retrieval
- Communications
- Operation of computer controlled systems
- Information gathering and application
- Information processing through the use of software
Curriculum Integration Goals
- The Long Lake School District will provide curriculum-related software and
opportunities for staff to create lesson plans, manage grading, and communicate
these items via internet services into their everyday teaching.
- The District Technology Committee will work with staff in the development of goals and integration of technology throughout the Long Lake School District.
- All staff members will be expected to take advantage of technology training, seek out appropriate technology curriculum materials, and integrate these to enhance a standards based technology curriculum.
- Students will be expected to meet the grade level technology standards.
- Students will be able to utilize the subject specific tools available for research, presentation, and problem solving.
Distance Learning Goals
The District will:
- Implement and upgrade, as needed a distance learning program to enhance student learning and staff development.
- Pursue collaborative partnerships with outside organizations and seek resources to make other modes of learning available to the school community.
Facilities Goals
- The district will be appropriately wired for Intranet (local) and Internet (global) communications.
- The district will be upgraded annually to support state of the art technology.
- The district technology committee will perform annual review/assessment of all facilities for technology.
- The district will provide resources for repair, upgrades, and expansion of facilities with respect to technology.
- The district will provide a forum for students to use their expertise and provide input into the ongoing development of the technology program which could include classroom work as well as the development and maintenance of the school's web page.
Hardware Goals
The District will:
- Commit the appropriate funding for replacement and upgrading of equipment on an annual basis.
- Provide appropriate hardware for local area networking (LAN) and communications.
- Designate equipment for all personnel to meet district goals.
- Work with district personnel to develop and periodically review district standards for the acquisition of equipment.
- Provide equipment for all faculty to enable students to meet NYS standards and district communication goals.
Instructional Goals
The District will:
- Have the computer coordinator work cohesively with the school community to research, select and implement new software solutions.
- Use technology as tools to support the everyday, ongoing tasks of learning, writing, calculating, drawing, researching, analyzing data, and receiving information.
- Appropriately integrate educational technology to meet NYS standards in all curricular areas.
- Promote technology literacy by providing support to review, update and assess the K-12 technology literacy standards.
Library Media Center Goals
- Establish library media centers as focal points for research and communication.
- Use automation software in conjunction with the curriculum to develop a plan for accountability and collection development based on NYS standards and district communication goals.
Software Goals
The District will:
- Provide needed filtering or blocking technology that will meet the Children's Internet Protection Act.
- Provide staff with the opportunity to preview and familiarize themselves with software.
- Provide ready access to technology with high quality communication and printing capabilities.
- Provide a central location where software will be stored and inventoried.
- Adopt software standards/classroom management solutions to provide continuity throughout the district.
- Provide annual review of the purchase and sharing of software.
Staff Development Goals
The District will:
- Provide ongoing instruction for all personnel as it applies to their roles in the district.
- Expect staff to serve as role models for the Long Lake community in the use of technology.
- Develop a procedure that assesses the technological competence of all staff in order to recognize areas of strength and weakness.
- Provide access to appropriate resources that will allow the use of technology both in and outside the work environment to aid staff in their professional duties.
Staffing Goals
The District will:
- Provide adequate staffing to support all aspects of computer use at Long Lake Schools.
- Consider technological competence when hiring new personnel.
Staff Development Plan
- The district will provide training in the use of technology for all staff relative to the needs of their curriculum and students.

Budget
The district has projected the following budgets to be reviewed annually and modified or revised to accommodate needs assessments. In addition to budgeted funds, other potential resources such as referendums and grants will be sought.

The focus of this plan is to teach students the skills to be computer proficient in a competitive global marketplace and to provide technological opportunities to all members of the school that will enable them to be life long learners. An ongoing process utilizing a technology evaluation rubric will take place. Technology exit standards at Long Lake Central will be updated according to NYS learning standards to meet the changing needs of our district, and the changing skills in our increasingly global economy. Benchmarks will be created to monitor the progress of students towards the standards. The school community evaluation will be an ongoing process through the collection of various surveys, staff-needs assessment worksheets, technology needs-assessment worksheets, and technology proficiency/levels of use worksheets.
