Welcome!

Science 5th and 6th Grades

The science curriculum has recently changed with the new Next Generation standards guiding the coursework.  This year, the 5th graders will have an end of the year NYS science test. There are 4 investigations/labs that are required for the NYS test. I will be collaborating for science with Mrs. Delehanty and Mrs. Curtin to complete all required investigations. This year we will be exploring both 5th and 6th grade standards and focusing on these topics using various resources:

Social Studies 5th and 6th Grades

This year we are using Studies Weekly to explore our social studies curriculum. There are videos, images, interactive components and a weekly newspaper.

E.L.A. 6th Grade

The ELA curriculum for sixth grade consists of daily writing, weekly spelling and vocabulary work, grammar lessons and literary units that we read together.  The literary units are typically tied to the Social Studies or science curriculum. We use the Pearson Reading Street program for our reading instruction. The program consists of authentic literature in a variety of genres.  There is a weekly reading piece, lessons on literary elements, vocabulary and reading skills.  Each week there is a reading assessment on the lessons covered followed by a unit assessment every five weeks.
