Applying to College

Applying to college is a months-long process that begins in your freshman year of high school and intensifies during the summer between your junior and senior years. Here are some important milestones:

Freshman Year:  Review LLCS graduation requirements, take challenging courses and save money for your post-secondary education

Sophomore Year:  Talk to Guidance about taking SAT Subject Tests and what's required to participate in athletics in college.  Continue to safe for post-secondary education.

Junior Year:  Take the PSAT in the fall.  Register and prepare for the spring SAT or ACT.  Begin to explore options for 2- or 4-year colleges, the military, or trade schools, have your parents fill out the sample FAFSA form to determine possible financial aid.

Summer before Senior Year:  Draft your college essay; draft a resume of your high school activities in clubs, sports and volunteer work.  Review the Common Application and complete a draft, including essay and short questions

Senior Year:  Attend college visit meetings here at LLCS and visit colleges, schedule an appointment with the Guidance Counselor, sign up for fall SAT and/or ACT, submit your applications to college and pay attention to deadlines, submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1.
